Anglo-Irish Relations since 1800: From Conflict to Peace?
 
 This course deals with the political, institutional, religious and social relations between the Isle of Ireland and Britain, from the beginning of the 19th century, when Ireland became part of the United Kingdom, until recent times. It studies the Irish Famine and Irish immigration; the rise of nationalism and the Celtic revival; the Anglo-Irish War, the independence and partition of Ireland; the Troubles in Northern Ireland and their consequences for the UK; the Peace Process; and the possible consequences of Brexit on Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Objectifs

- Maîtriser les dates et évènements majeurs qui ont marqué l'histoire politique, sociale, religieuse et culturelle de la République d'Irlande et de l'Irlande du Nord en rapport avec le Royaume-Uni.

- Initiation à l'historiographie.

- Être capable d'analyser un film et d'en faire un exposé oral.

- Être capable de disserter sur un sujet, de commenter un texte ou un document iconographique.

Pré-requis

- Maîtriser les dates et évènements majeurs de la création du Royaume-Uni; l'histoire et le fonctionnement de ses institutions (Parlement, Monarchie, Religion, etc.). Voir Pickard, Sarah, Civilisation britannique, British Civilization, Paris : Pocket, 2018. (manuel L1)
